Movie Snippet: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games (2012: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutchinson): Thumbs Down.

I thought this movie was supposed to be good? I really thought there was going to be some cool stuff after the first 30 minutes, but it's just a super let down. The Capital city has all this cool looking tech like hovercraft and holograms, and I didn't see a single lightsaber or anything futuristic in terms of weaponry.

No comment on the story, which is just a mish-mash of things I've seen at least a dozen times, but the camera work was shoddy and distracting. Chopped up footage, flashing screens in the place of actual gore (I thought this movie was rated PG, but it's a PG-13 even), and I'm pretty there was one scene where I could see that two takes where spliced together because of a slight shift in the background.

All in all, this movie was not the overly groundbreaking experience I was expecting.

Must be hitting a drought, this is the 4th "Thumbs Down" movie I've seen in a row.
