Asakusa Melon Pan

It's pretty silly, but one of my low priority goals is to try out special melon-pan varieties throughout Japan. I'm not talking about supermarket, random cafe varieties, I'm talking about landmark specialties like lavender shelled, green and purple tinted tops. You guys think I'm nuts, but I'm just a low grade connoisseur.

Anyways, my travels led me to a famous bread shop near the back of the Asakusa Shrine area (to the right facing, and near, the main temple structure itself). The melon pan there is supposedly of this special variety. When I ordered, they asked me if I wanted to wait for a hot one (keyword: 'atsui' trans: hot). Mwhahaha. I replied with an 'onegaishimasu' (trans: yes please). Maybe I should respond with a 'nishishishi' next time, but I think that only applies to nikumans (meat buns); not to mention it would sound strange coming from a foreign male and not a highschool anime girl. Strike that thought.

The taste is on the mark but not spectacular. However, from a texture point of view, I must say that the Asakusa melon pan is definitely crispier then the run-of-the-mill kind. Worth trying for fans of melon pan, but I'd be hard pressed to think of ones that weren't.
