Ano Natsu de Matteru: First Impressions

Kaito's world changes when he is gravely injured when a spaceship lands right on top of him. The next day at school, mysterious transfer student Ichika shows up and steals his heart; little does he know, she is the one thing keeping him alive right now. In typical anime fashion, they begin living under the same roof, causing all sorts of mayhem, comedy, and drama.

First Impressions:The setup is much like UFO Princess Valkyrie, only the dialogue, the story, the characters, and the music are lifted straight off of the writer's and designer's previous work, Onegai Sensei. Onegai Sensei was fun to watch and sweet at times, if a little overly dramatic; this one loses points for originality, but seems to work the comedy angle a little bit more - except it's not that funny though. Also unlike its predecessors, the characters also don't seem that appealing to me.

Given its pedigree, I'll watch, but it's got a lot of ground to make up if it wants to win me over. Personally, I think it's already doomed because it's stuck under in the shadows of a far superior anime from a nearly decade ago.
