Otaru for a day

Otaru is a port town in Hokkaido. It's famous for its Otaru Canal, its historical buildings, its music boxes, and for glass blowing. The average low building clearance was kinda weird for a major city, but I guess it adds to the charm.

It also has some amazing food - the Sankaku Seafood Market, especially. It's right next to the JR Otaru station. Crab miso soup *yum*, but the best sashimi in Otaru by far came from my friend, the 8 finned fish, which I think I was told was a unique delicacy to that city. I don't know it's real name, but wow was it tasty. I picked it out, and they served it to me right away, lol.

A great place to spend a day. The entire city closes up real early though. I think it was only 6 or 7 pm when nearly every store (restaurants and cafes included) shut down for the night.

  1. Hi kenholic,

I think the 8 finned fish looks like a flying fish.
