Kenholic Weekly #1: Sasuke Chop! Edition

Awesome Shounen week. One Piece is continually rocking with the Whitebeard/Ace arc, and Bleach just dropped a bombshell of a twist yesterday after running for nearly 6 years. It was so exciting; I was jumping up and down like it was a 49ers Superbowl. Moments like this are why I don't read the manga for those shows anymore, it's just so much more exciting seeing them for the first time in an animated medium. I think Naruto is restarting their main arc too, which is well timed because a) the Whitebeard arc looks like its almost over, and b) I don't know if I can take another Sasuke Chop! episode.


As for the seasonal shows, Level E had really interesting episodes 3 and 4. It's stock is rising in my book, but the ceiling still seems of an average level. I still think Zombie is the best seasonal show right now because of the variety of things it brings to the table, and that Puella Magicka Madoka is still really predictable. I called the events of epi 3 after watching 2, and epi 4 after watching 3. They even foreshadowed the ending paradox in the first 2-3 mins of epi 1, so I don't know what's left for it. Freezing continues to grab my attention solely via Bridget Satellizer, who attempts her best lolcat impression this week.


On the backlog side of things, I'm catching up on Star Driver. It is literally Utena all over again, and unfortunately I didn't really like Utena. Seems like I'm one of the few. Star Driver does have some of its own merits (mecha - they even borrowed the Gundam Dragoon System) though, so I'm willing to finish it.

Gamewise, I'm making my way through Red Dead Redemption, but still spending the bulk of my time in Starcraft 2. My first impression is that Red Dead Redemption has some nice things going for it, but way overrated in terms of metascore. Like really? 95? I love westerns as much as the next guy, but this should not be one of the top 5's of this current console generation or even top 10.

As evidenced by RDD, Madoka, and Utena/Star Driver this week, maybe I'm just not a big fan of praising novelty for novelty's sake; which makes this a good point to wrap up this weekly here. Next week should be more videogame centric, I hope, since I've been really active in SC2 lately, but who knows. Maybe Sasuke finally grows a brain. Zing!
