Amazon Streaming (now free for prime)

So since Amazon streaming is now free for prime members, I figured I could check it out. I must say, it's great if you love ... Mister Roger's Neighborhood?

Yeah, the selection isn't that great, and I couldn't find any movies that streamed in HD. The most popular movie today seems to be "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest", which is fairly new, but why would I watch it on Amazon (480p) when Netflix also has it in HD (720p). Other than that, the other top movies seem to be Contact, Hairspray, Charlie's Angels? Sigh.

Tech-wise, it seems pretty standard using Adobe Flash, but isn't H.264 over HTML5 the new hotness? Again, the service seems a little behind the times here. But the loading is pretty fast, popping the stream out saves your progress, and there's a stream quality bar; nothing new.

So why am I even talking about this at all? Because it's Amazon, and Amazon is a large player. I dunno, it feels like they are 2-3 years too late. I can't really complain too much because this is a benefit that was tacked onto my prime membership today, but I don't see myself dropping my Netflix account for the forseeable future.

480p screen cap, not too bad, but scales poorly on a larger screen:

720p screen cap, better, but the content is kinda irrelevant.
