Baka to Test to Shokanju (Q1 2010)


A rapid paced comedy/high school life/battle anime? Count me in. Students can summon avatars with attack/health points equal to their skills in a given subject. It's surprisingly good, actually, since the battle system is ultra simple and everything moves really fast. Two episodes, two battles completed. The third episode really expands the comedic range of this show, it's really one of the funnier episodes that I've seen from any recent series.

At Best: Diamond in the rough rookies take on the world (Saki)
At Worst: Hand wavy battle system with no real rhyme/reason (Angelic Layer)

Leaning towards:  Somewhere in between.

Recommendation:  Fills the void for that "competition and backstory" niche this season. Humor is a pleasant bonus here.
