Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu Review

Sudden girlfriend appearance ... check.
Societal barrier to introduce barrier to relationship ... double check.
A love rival appears to introduce further turbulence ... check.
Typical ending ... check.

Yep, we have a shoujo series here. Rest of the post following the link.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu (Haruka Nogizaka's Secret) (re)introduces several generic conventions to the audience, and the resulting show is somewhat bland in terms of character and plot development - both are generic and predictable. But hey, I couldn't stop watching! wtf, 13 episodes, and a second season currently starting it's airing. Maybe I'm just a sucker for these, or maybe because I found very severe similarities with another show that I really liked, Onegai Teacher. In one episode preview, they even made reference to some of the trademark lines from Onegai Teacher, so maybe the writers were aware and paying tribute?

Aside from that, there's really nothing that stands out here - you get some cute moments, some funny scenes, and in typical shounen fashion, utter frustration at both the main characters for not getting together sooner. Also, if not for the anime's title, I would forget the main girl's name, and I even bother remembering the guy's name until half way through the series. Their faces are pretty standard and forgettable as well, so I helpfully pasted a picture of them as the title pic for this post. Don't get me wrong, my eyes were glued to the screen, but it's probably more of a preference thing for the type of story than any real awe. I can recommend this show to shoujo lovers but probably to no one else.

Pros: Shoujo!
Cons: Generic, forgettable characters.

Kenholic rating: 4 out of 10 (like enjoying a quick shoujo novel; I will probably forget the details of this show in a few months)
